Xiaomi phones can now share directly with iPhones

For years, AirDrop has been one of Apple’s strongest ecosystem features because of how easily it lets users send files between iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Android users have had alternatives, but sharing files across platforms has usually meant dealing with third-party apps, cloud uploads, or compressed media. Xiaomi is now trying to remove that friction with its new HyperConnect-powered sharing tools built into HyperOS.

The new feature brings AirDrop-style functionality to Xiaomi phones, allowing users to transfer files wirelessly between Xiaomi devices and Apple products. The system works using Bluetooth for discovering nearby devices and Wi-Fi for faster file transfers, making the process much closer to Apple’s approach. Users can share photos, videos, documents, Wi-Fi credentials, and large files without relying on messaging apps or cables.

This matters more than it initially sounds because cross-platform sharing has always been one of the biggest pain points between Android and iPhone users. Sending large videos or batches of photos often meant losing quality or waiting for uploads to finish. Xiaomi’s new approach could make switching between ecosystems much easier, especially for people who use both Android phones and Apple devices.

Support is currently limited, with newer HyperOS devices receiving priority. Early reports suggest Xiaomi’s flagship phones are getting access first, with devices like the Xiaomi 17T Pro among the first confirmed models. Apple users may also need Xiaomi’s Interconnectivity app installed on iPhones, iPads, or Macs to unlock full functionality.

For the best experience, keeping HyperOS updated is important since newer software versions appear to improve compatibility. Using both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth together is also recommended because disabling one may interrupt device discovery. Installing companion apps beforehand and staying connected to the same network can also help reduce transfer issues.

What makes this bigger than a simple file-sharing feature is Xiaomi’s wider ecosystem strategy. HyperConnect also supports shared clipboards, screen mirroring, device syncing, and cross-device continuity features. Xiaomi is clearly moving beyond basic file transfers and building an ecosystem designed to compete more directly with Apple.

The feature is still new and support remains limited for now, but the direction is clear: Xiaomi wants cross-platform sharing to feel effortless, and if rollout expands quickly, moving files between Android and Apple devices may finally stop being frustrating.
