Apple Releases iOS 27.2 Release Candidate, Public Launch Likely Before the End of October

iOS 27.2

Apple has released the iOS 27.2 release candidate to developers, which usually means the update is close to its public launch. The RC arrived on October 19, about a week after the fourth beta, according to MacRumors, which expects the public release before the end of the month and says it “could come next week.” Apple hasn’t announced a date. The same build is expected to ship to everyone unless testing turns up a problem, and a second RC remains possible.

PlatformRC build
iOS 27.224B115
iPadOS 27.224B115
macOS 27.226B118
watchOS 27.224S116
tvOS 27.224K120
visionOS 27.224N118
HomePod Software 27.224K120

Some reports quote the iOS build as 24B5115, but the build numbers in the AppleInsider and Appleosophy reports are 24B115, which replaces the beta 4 build 24B5110a. Release candidates normally drop the “5” that appears in beta build numbers, so 24B115 is the figure to use.

The RC isn’t a feature release on its own, and the reports don’t describe new changes in it. The features reported across the 27.2 beta cycle include more languages for Siri’s AI features (French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish), profiles in the Apple TV app, a new black-and-white Apple Music icon with a blue highlight on the active tab, Group FaceTime dual capture, and changes to how Apple Podcasts organizes episodes. MacRumors also lists anniversary alerts in Call Context and an alternative, expanded App Tracking Transparency prompt in the European Union. Not every report mentions every item, so the final changelog may differ.

The redesigned Health app, with features such as Longevity, Readiness and Insights, won’t be in the release. Apple pulled it from beta 4 and restored the old interface, and reports say the redesign is still planned for later in 2026. An anti-theft feature that appeared in beta 2 code, reported as AutoLock, was never accessible to testers and shouldn’t be expected in this release.

iOS 27.2 is also the first point update for most iPhones. According to AppleInsider, Apple skipped a 27.1 release for non-foldable models because that build is meant for the iPhone Duo, which Verizon is taking pre-orders for ahead of its October 23 wider availability.

Only registered developers can install the RC, through Settings, General, Software Update, then Beta Updates and the iOS 27 developer beta. MacRumors doesn’t say whether public beta testers get it. Back up your iPhone before installing prerelease software, or wait for the public release if you’d rather avoid bugs.
