Qualcomm is reportedly raising chip prices by a double-digit percentage starting September 1, 2026, and that timing lines up uncomfortably well with Samsung’s Galaxy S27 Ultra development cycle. According to the reports, Qualcomm told customers it’s been absorbing rising component costs and searching for alternative suppliers, but it’s now passing at least part of that burden downstream.
That’s the confirmed part. Everything about what it means for the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s price is still speculation.
The S27 Ultra is expected to run Qualcomm’s next flagship chip, likely called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Even before this pricing news broke, leaks pegged that chip at over $300 per unit, compared to an estimated $240–$280 for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the current Galaxy S26 Ultra. Layer Qualcomm’s new double-digit increase on top of an already pricier chip, and Samsung is looking at rising silicon costs from two directions at once not unlike the memory and storage price pressure we’ve already seen squeezing Pixel 11 pricing ahead of Google’s August 12 event.
Here’s the part that’s easy to get wrong: a 10% increase in what Qualcomm charges for a chip doesn’t mean Samsung raises the phone’s retail price by 10%. Samsung has three real options: pass the cost to buyers, absorb it and take a margin hit, or offset it by adjusting other components.
Samsung is also reportedly exploring its own Exynos 2700 for select S27 models to cut Qualcomm dependence, though the Ultra is still expected to stick with Snapdragon exclusively probably because Samsung reserves its best silicon partnership for the top-tier model regardless of cost.
Qualcomm raising prices is real. The S27 Ultra costing more is a logical guess, not a done deal. If you’re planning to upgrade next year, budget for the possibility of a price bump, but don’t treat any specific number you see online as official until Samsung actually announces it.
