Samsung’s next flagship may bring a notable camera shift: new leaks suggest the Galaxy S27 and S27+ are being tested with 50MP Sony main camera sensors, potentially ending years of reliance on Samsung’s own ISOCELL sensors for its standard flagships.
According to GalaxyClub, cited by SamMobile, both models are currently testing a 50MP Sony sensor as their primary rear camera. If accurate, this would be the first time in years Samsung hasn’t used its in-house ISOCELL sensor for the main camera on standard S-series phones.
The megapixel count isn’t changing, but the supplier switch suggests Samsung is chasing better low-light performance, faster autofocus, and improved dynamic range rather than chasing higher resolution numbers.
The ultra-wide camera is expected to stay at 12MP, unchanged from the current generation. No telephoto details have leaked yet, leaving that part of the camera system a mystery for now.
Rumors suggest the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra could go further, adopting a 50MP Sony IMX855 ultra-wide sensor meaning the base S27 and S27+ may stay a notch behind their pricier siblings in ultra-wide performance.
With a launch expected in early 2027, these are prototype-stage details that could easily shift before production locks in.
