vivo is reportedly testing a much larger sensor for the X500 Ultra’s telephoto camera. Tipster Digital Chat Station says in a Weibo post that the phone is being tested with a 200MP telephoto camera that uses a 1/1.12-inch sensor, as reported on October 20. That would be a big jump from vivo’s current 200MP telephoto cameras, which use 1/1.4-inch Samsung sensors. vivo hasn’t confirmed anything, and the report describes a test unit rather than a finished design.
| Detail | Reported |
| Telephoto resolution | 200MP |
| Telephoto sensor size | 1/1.12-inch (testing) |
| Current vivo telephotos | About 1/1.4-inch, Samsung ISOCELL HP9 family |
| Reported supplier | Samsung (unverified) |
| Stage | Testing |
| Expected launch | China, March to April 2027 |
The supplier’s claim needs caution. In a follow-up comment, the tipster said the sensor comes from Samsung, but Samsung doesn’t currently list a 200MP 1/1.12-inch sensor in its lineup, so either it’s an unannounced part or the detail is wrong. The same tipster said in July that vivo was weighing three 200MP telephoto sizes, 1/1.12-inch, 1/1.3-inch and 1/1.4-inch, with no winner chosen. The new leak suggests the largest is being tested, but it doesn’t mean the sensor has been finalized for mass production. Samsung’s own 200MP ISOCELL HP6 for the Galaxy S27 Ultra is described as a 1/1.3-inch-class main camera sensor, which shows how much larger a 1/1.12-inch telephoto sensor would be.
A larger sensor can collect more light, which could mean less noise and more detail in low-light zoom shots, but sensor size alone doesn’t decide image quality. Lens design, stabilization and processing matter too, and a bigger sensor needs more space, which could mean a thicker camera module. Earlier reports also said vivo dropped a dedicated 10x periscope prototype in favor of a single 200MP periscope with in-sensor zoom, though the final zoom range hasn’t been confirmed.
Other rumored specs come from separate leaks and don’t all agree. They include a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, the chip Qualcomm announced in September and that is also tied to the Galaxy S27 Ultra, a 6.85-inch 2K LTPO OLED display from BOE with up to 144Hz, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and a battery of roughly 7,000mAh to 8,000mAh. The phone is expected in China in March or April 2027, and an international launch hasn’t been confirmed.
