Apple Watch season arrives every September without fail and Series 12 is no different. Alongside the iPhone 18 lineup, Apple is expected to unveil its next smartwatch in September 2026. The leaks are starting to solidify, and the picture forming is one of meaningful internal upgrades wrapped in a familiar exterior.
Don’t expect a dramatic redesign. Multiple reports are clear Series 12 keeps the same case shape, display sizes, and overall aesthetic introduced in recent models. New color finishes and watch faces will show up, but the chassis itself stays. A bigger redesign rumored earlier has apparently been pushed to 2027 or 2028.
The real story is inside. Apple is widely expected to introduce a new chipset potentially built on a 3nm process with architecture linked to the A19 chip family. Apple’s chip upgrade pattern in Apple Watch runs roughly every three years; the S6 arrived in 2020, the S9 in 2023 making 2026 exactly the right moment for a meaningful jump. Better performance, improved efficiency, and longer software support life are the expected benefits.
Touch ID is off the table. Earlier rumors suggested under-display fingerprint sensing might arrive, but more recent reports say Apple chose larger batteries and advanced health sensors over authentication hardware instead.
Health tracking gets the attention Touch ID lost. Blood pressure monitoring is the most credible new addition hypertension detection and trend monitoring are both mentioned across multiple reports. Blood glucose monitoring, despite years of rumors, remains unlikely for this cycle. The underside sensor array is also rumored to be redesigned for better accuracy.
watchOS 27, revealed at WWDC in June, will power the AI-driven Health features a personalized wellness concierge built into Apple Intelligence.
Pricing is expected to hold around $399 USD to start.
