According to Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, Apple is now testing two distinct panel sizes for its 2027 anniversary lineup: roughly 6.4 inches for the iPhone 20 Pro, and 6.96 inches (likely marketed as a full 7 inches) for the Pro Max.
Multiple outlets have independently corroborated the same two numbers within the same 24-hour window, which is a stronger signal than a single Weibo post usually carries. Worth noting, though: measured against today’s 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch iPhone 17 Pro displays, that’s a modest 0.1-inch and 0.06-inch bump respectively a scaled-up version of the same aspect ratio, not a reshaped or dramatically bigger screen despite the “biggest ever” framing circulating online.
The context makes this year’s restraint clearer, too. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro lineup, launching next month, is expected to keep the exact same 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch sizes unchanged meaning Apple is holding every bit of display growth in reserve specifically for the 20th anniversary model rather than spreading incremental bumps across generations the way it did in 2024, when the Pro Max grew from 6.7 to 6.9 inches.
Beyond the screen, the same leaks point to an A21 chip, a custom Apple-designed image sensor, solid-state haptic buttons, and a pure silicon battery hardware changes that, taken together, suggest Apple is treating 2027 as a genuine reset rather than an incremental refresh. None of it is confirmed, and prototype specs shift constantly over an 18-month runway. But saving every major change for the anniversary year, rather than any single generation, is Apple signaling exactly how much weight it’s putting on this one.
