iPhone Ultra Could Drive 20% Foldable Market Growth

The foldable phone market has been snoozing for a couple of years, but a massive jolt is apparently on the schedule for 2026. According to the latest supply-chain murmurs, Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone is finally making its debut, and it’s expected to drag the entire form factor out of its slump.

Industry analysts are projecting a 20% surge in global foldable smartphone shipments in 2026. The primary catalyst is Cupertino’s belated entry into the space. Despite being a first-generation product, the report claims Apple will instantly gobble up roughly 25% of the foldable market. That’s an absurdly strong start for a category Samsung has been meticulously cultivating since the original Galaxy Fold dropped in 2019.

Samsung isn’t losing the crown overnight. The Korean giant is still projected to retain the overall number one spot, largely thanks to its iron grip on the cheaper clamshell market with the Galaxy Z Fold series. Apple’s device rumored to be a book-style foldable priced well over $2,000will instead clash directly with the Galaxy Z Fold lineup and premium Chinese alternatives like Huawei’s Mate XT.

Behind the scenes, component suppliers are already spinning up capacity for OLED panels, ultra-thin glass, and hinges to meet the anticipated demand. Apple’s infamous perfectionism is reportedly focused heavily on eliminating the display crease and improving durability/persistent pain points that competitors like OnePlus and Honor have aggressively minimized, though never entirely cured.
