Apple’s Next iPad mini Could Be Its Biggest Upgrade Since 2021 Here’s What’s Coming

A new report from citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, points to Apple preparing the biggest overhaul to the iPad mini since its 2021 redesign. The headline change is a long-awaited switch from LCD to OLED, and Apple is reportedly targeting an October 2026 launch to bring it to market.

OLED Display

The new panel internally codenamed J510 should bring deeper blacks, stronger contrast, more vibrant colors, and better HDR performance compared to the current LCD screen. There’s a tradeoff, though: despite the OLED upgrade, Apple is reportedly sticking with a 60Hz refresh rate rather than bringing over 120Hz ProMotion, likely a cost and sourcing decision rather than a technical limitation.

Chip Upgrade

The report points to a significant processor jump, though the exact chip remains unconfirmed. Industry chatter has floated both the A19 Pro and A20 Pro as possibilities. Either way, expect meaningful gains in app performance, gaming, and Apple Intelligence capabilities, along with better power efficiency overall.

Don’t Expect a New Look

If you’re hoping for a redesigned iPad mini, temper those expectations. The chassis, bezels, and overall compact form factor are reportedly staying the same; this generation is about what’s inside, not how it looks.

Price

OLED panels cost more to produce than LCD, and combined with Apple’s recent pattern of raising prices across its lineup, a higher starting price for the mini seems likely. Nothing official yet, but it’s worth budgeting for.
