Apple released iOS 27.1 on October 22, a day before the iPhone Duo went on sale, but the update is available only for Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The Duo ships with an earlier iOS 27.1 build, 24A94232, so buyers will see a software update during initial setup to move to the newer build, 24A94425. Apple has also made that build available as an IPSW file for manual installs.

Apple hasn’t said why iOS 27.1 is limited to the Duo. Keeping it exclusive likely helped the company prevent Duo-specific software features from leaking before launch, and it lets Apple handle the foldable’s display configurations and multitasking behavior without touching the regular iPhone lineup. Other compatible iPhones are going from iOS 27.0.1 straight to iOS 27.2, skipping a public iOS 27.1 release.
The iOS 27.2 Release Candidate, which Apple released earlier this week, also supports the iPhone Duo. The public iOS 27.2 release is expected next week, which will put the Duo and every other compatible iPhone on the same software version.
