Apple is paying Samsung Display roughly $250 for each foldable OLED panel that goes into the iPhone Duo, according to OLED-Info a notably higher per-unit cost than what Samsung pays itself for the foldable displays used in its own Galaxy Z Fold and Fold Ultra models. Samsung Display is the exclusive supplier for the panel, reportedly under a three-year agreement that also covers future Apple foldables.
| Detail | Figure |
| Price per panel | ~$250 |
| 2026 panel volume | ~8 million |
| Estimated 2026 display value | ~$2 billion |
| Reported 2027 panel volume | ~15 million |
| Implied 2027 display value | ~$3.75 billion |
Those volume-based totals are simple multiplication rather than confirmed contract figures 8 million panels at $250 works out to roughly $2 billion for 2026, and if Samsung really does scale up to 15 million panels in 2027 at the same per-unit price, that would put the display line alone somewhere around $3.75 billion. Neither number has been confirmed as an actual contract value, just an estimate built from the reported price and reported volume.
The higher cost traces back to what Apple specifically asked Samsung Display to build. Rather than adapting an existing Galaxy Fold panel, Apple reportedly pushed hard on crease visibility specifically, and Samsung dedicated separate production capacity to meet that requirement, the kind of crease reduction that’s been one of the most consistent complaints when foldables get compared side by side up to this point. The finished iPhone Duo has now launched with what hands-on reports describe as a nearly invisible internal crease, using a 7.6-inch inner display alongside a 5.4-inch outer display suggesting Apple’s extra spending on the panel translated into a real, noticeable difference rather than just marketing language.
Samsung’s production commitment backs up the scale of the deal. Earlier supply-chain reporting put Samsung Display’s total foldable OLED capacity at up to 15 million panels a year, well above what Apple initially needed for an estimated 6-8 million foldable iPhones in year one. More recent reports suggest Apple’s own order could climb from around 8 million panels in 2026 to 15 million in 2027 meaning Samsung could end up dedicating a huge share of its foldable production to Apple within a couple of years, a shift that would matter for Samsung’s own foldable lineup and how it stacks up against competing Android foldables going forward.
