Apple Maps just went from “coming soon” to actually open for business. As of August 14, 2026, businesses in the US and Canada can start buying ads on Apple Maps, moving from the March announcement that had promised a summer rollout into something you can now actually sign up for.
The setup is pretty flexible. Advertisers upload photos, write a promotional message, and set their own budget, no minimum spend required. There’s even an early incentive: pay by credit card before October 11, 2026, and you get a 15% monthly credit toward the following month’s spend, capped at $1,000 a month for the first year.
Apple’s leaning hard on the numbers here too, claiming over 1 billion relevant business searches happen on Maps every month, with half of those searches reportedly leading to some kind of action from the user. Those are Apple’s own figures, worth keeping in mind, but the underlying logic makes sense: someone typing “coffee shop near me” is about as high-intent as advertising gets. Targeting runs on location, time of day, and day of week, and ads let people call the business or get directions straight from the listing instead of just seeing a name on a map.
Not everyone qualifies, though. Businesses need a physical address customers can actually visit, which rules out plumbers, electricians, HVAC companies, locksmiths, and similar home-service trades, along with categories like alcohol, gambling, dating, and crypto ATMs.
For local businesses that do qualify, this is a real new channel worth testing early, especially with that introductory credit on the table before it disappears in October.
