Nothing has officially begun the global rollout of Nothing OS 4.0 its newest Android skin based on Android 16 and, as of late December 2025, the update is actively hitting CMF devices including the CMF Phone 1 and CMF Phone 2 Pro, bringing a major system upgrade and refined user experience to the brand’s broader lineup.
Nothing OS 4.0 first launched in November 2025 with the Nothing Phone 3 series as the initial device to receive the stable Android 16-based version, following an open beta cycle that rolled out earlier in the year. The update introduces a refreshed user interface with cleaner visuals, smoother animations and deeper customisation options, alongside system-level improvements courtesy of Android 16’s platform enhancements.
The current phase of the rollout has expanded to CMF-branded phones, with Nothing and CMF confirming a phased deployment:
- CMF Phone 1: The stable Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 update is already rolling out via OTA, bringing interface refinements, Expanded Dark Mode, widget size enhancements and multitasking upgrades.
- CMF Phone 2 Pro: The update is scheduled to hit in the coming weeks (early January 2026) as part of the broader phased rollout, with users receiving notifications in batches depending on region and carrier.
- Nothing Phone (3a) Lite: According to the company’s rollout timeline, this device is expected to receive the stable update in early 2026, completing the general rollout across supported models.

What Nothing OS 4.0 brings:
• A cleaner and more balanced interface with refreshed system icons and simplified Quick Settings layouts, improving usability on both flagship and CMF devices.
• Enhanced Extra Dark Mode that boosts contrast and reduces power consumption on OLED screens.
• Smarter multitasking with improved Pop-up View that allows users to run and switch between floating apps more fluidly.
• Expanded widget customisation, including varied widget sizes to better organise home screens, and new lock screen options.
• Platform-level benefits from Android 16, such as performance optimisations, security enhancements and smoother animations across the system.
Nothing OS 4.0 marks a major system milestone for the brand and its sub-brand CMF devices, bringing the latest Android generation and refined UI consistency to a wider set of users ahead of 2026. The phased rollout means some users may still wait a few weeks for the update notification to arrive, depending on region and device batch.
