Apple has announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip, replacing the M5 model as the base MacBook Pro. The upgrade is mostly on the inside: a faster chip, more on-device AI muscle and Wi-Fi 7. Pre-orders open on October 28, and the first deliveries arrive on November 6.

Performance and AI
Apple says the M6’s 12-core GPU delivers up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI workloads than the M5. Compared with the 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro, Apple claims up to 11 times faster graphics and up to 13 times faster AI performance. These are Apple’s own figures from specific tests, and independent benchmarks haven’t been published yet.
The AI pitch rests on two additions: Neural Accelerators in the GPU and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says together they make the MacBook Pro a stronger platform for running large language models locally, as well as Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features across macOS. Siri AI isn’t available in the EU yet.
Connectivity, battery and design
The M6 model moves up to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 from Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 on the previous model. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours, which it says is up to four hours more than M1 models and up to 14 hours more than Intel-based MacBook Pros.
The design doesn’t change. The enclosure is made from 100% recycled aluminum, and Apple says the laptop contains 45% recycled content overall.
Pricing and availability
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999 with 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage, or $1,899 for eligible education customers. Pre-orders open on apple.com and in the Apple Store app in 35 countries and regions, including the US, with deliveries starting November 6.
This is the M6 version of the 14-inch model only, and it doesn’t bring OLED or a touchscreen. Those features are tied to the touchscreen MacBook Pro that’s rumored to launch on November 6, and Apple is expected to say more at its Pro and Tell event on October 28.
