Samsung’s Galaxy A08 5G has shown up in an IMEI database, a sign the phone is in development, according to SammyGuru. The first eight digits of an IMEI entry name the “Samsung Galaxy A08 5G.” The listing confirms the device exists, but not its specifications, final model number or release date, and Samsung hasn’t announced the phone. An earlier unnamed leak pointed to February 2027 for a launch, but that date is unverified.
| Model | Status | Notes |
| Galaxy A08 4G (SM-A085F) | Launched | Introduced September 16, 2026, with more markets expected |
| Galaxy A08 5G | Spotted in IMEI database | Model number possibly SM-A086B (a guess based on Samsung’s naming pattern); specs unconfirmed |
The 4G phone gives the best clue about what to expect. It launched quietly on September 16 as the successor to the Galaxy A07, and early availability was reported in Ukraine, Serbia and South Africa, with a retailer listing in the UAE a few days earlier. Launch coverage lists a 6.7-inch HD+ LCD, a MediaTek Helio G99 chip, 4GB of RAM with 128GB of storage and a microSD slot, a 50MP main camera with a 2MP depth sensor, an 8MP selfie camera, and a 6,000mAh battery with 25W wired charging. The refresh rate is reported as 90Hz in one listing but isn’t stated in other coverage. Reports also say it ships with Android 16 and One UI 8, and that Samsung promises six generations of OS upgrades.
The 5G version can’t simply copy that spec sheet, because the Helio G99 is a 4G-only chip, so Samsung would need a different processor. SammyGuru’s report speculates about an entry-level chip such as the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, a 6.7-inch LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 6,000mAh battery, a 50MP and 2MP camera pair, IP54 protection and possibly One UI 9 at launch. None of that comes from the database entry itself, which only shows the name, so treat it as a guess until a certification or leak backs it up. It adds that memory costs could push the 5G model’s price higher than the 4G’s.
An IMEI listing is an early step, so it shouldn’t be read as a final-stage certification. Phones often appear in these databases weeks or months before launch. The A08 family has also passed other checks, including India’s BIS database and Google’s Play Console listing, but the reports on those describe only the 4G model, and none we found mention a 5G variant. Samsung has also been expanding its other budget phones, such as the Galaxy A18, which is already receiving the October security patch.
