Apple is preparing a new 24-inch iMac with an M6 chip, according to Mark Gurman, who says the refresh is close enough to launch that it should arrive before the end of 2026. That would close out a roughly two-year gap since the current M4 iMac launched in October 2024, and it comes with an interesting quirk: Apple’s apparently skipping M5 entirely for this machine, jumping straight from M4 to M6.
New colors are coming too, though Gurman hasn’t said whether Apple’s adding to the existing lineup of green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver, or just refreshing the shades, something Apple already did subtly with the M4 generation. Don’t expect anything beyond that, though. No major redesign, no OLED display (that’s reportedly still years out on a separate iMac project), and no size change from the current 24-inch form factor.
Earlier reporting this month pointed to an October release based on Apple’s usual refresh timing, but Gurman’s latest update goes further, calling the launch imminent without locking in a specific month. So this looks like a straightforward internal update rather than anything resembling a redesign, new chip, refreshed colors, same iMac otherwise.
If you’ve been holding off on an iMac purchase, waiting a few more months for M6 is probably worth it, especially if the color refresh turns out to be more than a subtle shade shift.
