iPhone Fold RAM, Storage, and Price Details Are Starting to Leak

iPhone Fold

The iPhone Fold will have 12GB of RAM  the same as Apple’s Pro models and matching the iPhone 17 Pro. Samsung is reportedly the supplier of Apple’s 12GB LPDDR5X order. The price of a 12GB LPDDR5X RAM module has surged from around $30 to roughly $70 this year, driven by tightening global memory supply amid the AI server build-out. Samsung could begin mass production and shipments of these modules in Q2 2026, aligning with Apple’s production schedule.

Storage

Leaker Instant Digital says the iPhone Fold will come in three storage tiers: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. These three tiers match the smaller iPhone 17 Pro but fall one short of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which also offers a 2TB option.

Pricing

According to leaker Instant Digital, the iPhone Fold will be priced at CNY 15,999 for the 256GB base variant, CNY 17,999 for the 512GB option, and CNY 19,999 for the 1TB model. A starting price close to $1,999 is possible when factoring in Apple’s typical currency conversion differences between China and the US  lower than earlier leaks that pointed to $2,399. However, the starting price could end up somewhere between $1,800 and $2,500  nearly twice as much as the iPhone 17 Pro Max. A separate leaker, WayLabs, has suggested a much lower threshold but is considered less reliable.

Display & Crease

Early reports suggested Apple had solved the crease problem entirely, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the new display technology reduces the crease without eliminating it, and that the result is “not perfect”  suggesting expectations should be tempered.

Name

A leaker going by WayLabs has claimed on Weibo that Apple’s first foldable will be called the iPhone Ultra rather than iPhone Fold, not an entirely absurd idea, given Apple already uses that suffix on top-end products like Apple Watch Ultra and its M-class chips.

Other Hardware Details

The iPhone Fold is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch outer screen and a larger 7.8-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It is expected to run on Apple’s A20 Pro chipset, skip Face ID in favor of Touch ID in the power button, and feature a dual rear camera system.

Launch

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is launching this September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
