The iPhone 18 Pro Max Just Became Apple’s Fastest-Charging iPhone Ever

A new round of charging tests confirms the iPhone 18 Pro Max charges faster than any iPhone Apple has ever made, reaching around 50% in 15 minutes and 80% in about 30 minutes with a sufficiently powerful USB-C charger. One detailed test measured a peak draw of roughly 54W in the first 10 minutes of charging.

Peak power~52–54W~35W
0–100%~55–76 min (test-dependent)~72 minutes

That’s a real jump for a company that’s historically kept wired charging fairly conservative compared with Android flagships. Apple’s own announcement confirms faster USB-C charging on the iPhone 18 Pro line over the 17 Pro generation, and independent testing backs that up directly GSMArena’s comparison found the 18 Pro Max reaching 34% in just 10 minutes, well ahead of where the 17 Pro Max landed at the same point last year.

Part of the story is a bigger battery doing the work alongside the faster charging. The EU’s EPREL energy database lists the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 5,391mAh, up from the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 4,823mAh about an 11.8% capacity increase combined with the added efficiency of Apple’s new 2nm A20 Pro chip. Getting to 50% noticeably faster while charging a larger battery is a bigger technical jump than the raw charging-time numbers alone suggest.

There’s a catch worth flagging: these speeds require a properly powerful USB-C charger, and Apple still doesn’t include one in the box. Anyone wanting the full 15-minute-to-50% experience needs a compatible high-wattage adapter separately, similar to how getting the fastest charging out of Android flagships has always depended on using the right charger rather than just any USB-C brick.

It’s also worth noting Apple still isn’t the outright fastest phone to charge Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra reportedly hits 51% in 15 minutes and reaches 100% in about 43 minutes, though it’s doing that with a smaller battery than the 18 Pro Max, so the comparison isn’t entirely apples-to-apples. Still, the gap between Apple and Samsung’s charging speeds has narrowed considerably compared with previous generations, where Apple’s wired charging lagged well behind.

One thing worth being precise about: “fastest-charging iPhone ever” isn’t a phrase Apple itself has used in its official materials; that characterization comes from independent testing and outlets like Android Authority and GSMArena, based on real-world results rather than Apple’s own marketing copy.

GSMArena’s report has the full charging curve breakdown, including the comparison against the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
