Pixel Watch 5 Already Showing Up in Google Health App

Google’s next smartwatch just leaked itself. The Pixel Watch 5 has started appearing as a selectable device inside the Google Health app, weeks ahead of its expected official reveal a slip that all but confirms the watch exists, even though nobody outside Google can actually pair one yet.

That kind of software leak tends to be more reliable than spec rumors, since it’s coming directly from Google’s own systems rather than a supply-chain tip. It also fits a genuinely strange backstory: a Pixel Watch 5 prototype reportedly turned up on a Caribbean seabed near St. Martin back in June, found by a diver who returned it to its owner within hours. Google never commented on that one, but the timing lines up with everything surfacing since.

The bigger story isn’t hardware, it’s software. Reports suggest the Pixel Watch 5 will be the first Pixel Watch built entirely around the new Google Health app, which fully replaced Fitbit’s app in May after years of Google slowly absorbing the brand. The app now centralizes data from Pixel Watch, Fitbit hardware, and Health Connect, with a Gemini-powered Health Coach available as part of a $9.99/month Google Health Premium subscription. That’s a meaningful shift for Pixel Watch owners who’ve relied on the Fitbit app’s tracking tools for years and are now being funneled into a subscription-adjacent ecosystem instead.

On the hardware side, expectations are modest. Design leaks show something close to identical to the Pixel Watch 4, and even the chipset story is murky some reports point to Google finally moving to a custom Tensor chip, while more recent leaks suggest it may simply reuse the Snapdragon SW5100 from last year’s model with a bump to 3GB of RAM. Wear OS 7, which already rolled out to existing Pixel Watches, is expected to ship as the default software.

Google hasn’t confirmed a launch date, though the watch is widely expected to debut alongside the Pixel 11 series, likely in August, with retail availability following in the weeks after. Whatever ships under the hood, this generation reads less like a hardware leap and more like Google finally forcing every Pixel Watch owner onto its unified health platform for better or worse, depending on how attached you were to the old Fitbit app.
