Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone Ultra might land in the US well before anywhere else, according to a new report. Before anyone panics that this thing is US-exclusive, that’s not really what’s being said here, it’s more that America could get first dibs while everyone else waits a bit.
Think Vision Pro, basically. That thing launched stateside first and only expanded internationally later, and the report’s drawing a direct comparison to that same playbook. The reasoning makes sense too: a folding iPhone is a genuinely harder product to build than a normal one, with a big internal display and hinge mechanism that’s nowhere near as straightforward to manufacture at scale. Starting in one market lets Apple ease into production, sort out yields, and handle carrier and regulatory approvals country by country instead of trying to hit every market on day one.
Europe and China reportedly could be looking at a wait of several months behind the US launch, which honestly tracks given how complex this device sounds. We’re talking a book-style fold, something like a 7.7 to 7.8-inch inner screen paired with a 5.3 to 5.5-inch outer display, and a price that could land north of $2,000. None of that’s confirmed by Apple, and neither is the “iPhone Ultra” name, which is still just what leaks are calling it for now.
September 2026 is still the expected announcement window alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Just don’t expect it to hit shelves everywhere at the same time. If you’re outside the US and want one on day one, you might be looking at an import, or just a longer wait than usual.
