Apple Cuts Display Orders for “Foldable iPhone Ultra”

iPhone Fold

Apple has reportedly reduced its initial display orders for the foldable iPhone widely known in leaks as the iPhone Ultra. Before anyone panics this isn’t necessarily bad news. It’s a precautionary move that fits exactly how Apple typically approaches an entirely new product category.

Industry reports suggest Apple initially planned a larger first-generation display order but revised it downward ahead of mass production. The reasoning being floated includes a conservative approach to a genuinely new category for Apple, the foldable market remaining relatively niche compared to standard iPhones, and Apple simply trying to match production volume to realistic demand rather than risk excess inventory sitting unsold. None of these explanations are officially confirmed.

Crucially, a reduced order does not automatically mean a delayed launch. Reports continue pointing toward a second half of 2026 announcement, likely alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. Samsung Display remains the confirmed exclusive supplier, having secured a multi-year agreement based on its foldable OLED manufacturing experience.

The rumored device specs remain consistent across reports a 7.8-inch inner display, 5.5-inch cover display, book-style design with a titanium frame, and thickness around 4.5 — 4.8mm unfolded. Hardware leaks point to an Apple A20 Pro chip, up to 12GB RAM, and 1TB storage. Pricing estimates sit around $1,999 or higher.
