iPhone Ultra Could Be the Thinnest iPhone Ever Made

Apple’s first foldable might also become its thinnest phone ever folded or unfolded. New reports suggest the rumored iPhone Ultra could measure just 4.8mm thick when unfolded thinner than even the current iPhone Air’s unfolded profile and around 9–9.5mm when folded. If accurate, Apple isn’t just entering the foldable market late; it’s trying to immediately set the bar for how thin one can be.

The design follows a book-style foldable approach similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold, with a rumored 7.8-inch inner display and 5.5-inch outer display. Years of hinge development are reportedly aimed at achieving a nearly crease-free fold, historically the single biggest complaint about every foldable on the market, Samsung’s included.

Premium materials feature heavily in the leaks a titanium frame, Ceramic Shield glass on the cover display, and a reinforced hinge built from high-strength alloys for long-term durability. Samsung-supplied OLED panels with ultra-thin glass round out the display technology.

Performance expectations point to a next-generation Apple A-series chip with deeper Apple Intelligence integration and multitasking features specifically built for foldable screens, split-screen apps, enhanced drag-and-drop, and tighter continuity with iPad and Mac.

Pricing rumors land above $2,000, with estimates ranging between $1,999 and $2,200 depending on configuration positioning it as Apple’s most expensive iPhone ever.

The timeline points to a 2027 announcement, possibly timed to Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone lineup.
