WhatsApp’s new Liquid Glass design is coming to iOS

Apple’s Liquid Glass design language landed with iOS 26 and immediately set a new visual standard for every app on the platform. WhatsApp is now catching up and the redesign in development looks genuinely impressive.

The update brings a translucent, frosted glass aesthetic to WhatsApp’s core interface. The chat bar at the bottom floats above content instead of sitting flat against the screen. The navigation bar at the top fades transparently, letting messages show through beneath it. Tab bars become semi-transparent and adaptive. Buttons and menus adopt softer edges and smoother animations throughout. Everything that was flat and rigid before now has depth, layering, and a sense of weight.

It’s not just cosmetic either. This is a full interface rebuild navigation, interactions, animations, and eventually the voice note player are all being redesigned under the same glass visual system. Telegram recently went through a similar overhaul, and the direction across iOS apps is clearly moving toward depth and transparency over flat design.

The rollout is gradual and the chat screen redesign is still incomplete for most users. Not everyone has it yet.

Keep your WhatsApp updated this one is worth watching for.
