Xiaomi Watch 5 Debuts With ECG And EMG Gesture Control

Xiaomi Watch 5

Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi Watch 5, a new flagship smartwatch that debuts advanced health and interaction tech, including medical-grade ECG monitoring and an industry-first EMG (electromyography) gesture control sensor. The wearable was unveiled alongside the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Buds 6 at Xiaomi’s year-end product event in China today.

The Watch 5 sports a premium 47 mm stainless steel case and a 1.54-inch AMOLED display with ultra-narrow bezels and up to 1,500 nits peak brightness under sapphire crystal glass, boosting durability and outdoor visibility. The design positions it as a true flagship wearable with a robust build and refined looks.

Under the hood, Xiaomi uses a dual-chip architecture combining a Snapdragon W5 wearable processor for performance and a low-power BES2800 chip to handle health tracking and background tasks, which helps deliver long endurance. In performance mode the watch can last up to 6 days, while power-saving mode extends battery life to up to 18 days.

Health is a major focus of the Watch 5. It includes Class II medical-grade ECG monitoring, offering 30-second heart rhythm readings and detailed reports, alongside continuous heart rate, SpOâ‚‚, sleep and stress tracking. Most notably, the device introduces an EMG muscle signal sensor, a first for Xiaomi wearables that detects tiny electrical signals from the muscles, enabling gesture controls like pinching or fist movements to interact with the watch and connected devices without touching the screen.

Fitness and activity tracking are robust, with 150+ sports modes, 3D guided indoor workouts, automatic rep counting, outdoor route navigation with offline maps, deviation alerts and track-back assistance. The smartwatch also supports GPS and offers a standalone experience on select eSIM variants with call, messaging, WeChat and music streaming support without a connected phone.

Connectivity expands beyond phone tethering; the eSIM model allows the Watch 5 to function independently for calls, texts and apps like Alipay, Baidu Maps and more through its built-in HyperOS-based app store. Super XiaoAi voice assistant is also supported with on-device processing.

Strap options are diverse, including fluoroelastomer bands, leather options, and a premium 3D-printed titanium strap for a more luxurious feel and lighter weight. Charging is via contact points, and the system integrates tightly into Xiaomi’s HyperOS ecosystem for seamless interaction with other devices.

Pricing in China starts at around ¥1,999 (~$284) for the standard Bluetooth model and ¥2,299 (~$327) for the eSIM-enabled version, with optional premium strap options sold separately. International availability and pricing including potential launch outside China have not yet been confirmed.
