Xiaomi officially unveiled the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in China on September 23, positioning it as the top model of its new 18 Pro lineup. The phone brings major upgrades across the chipset, camera, battery, display, and its now-signature rear-screen experience, and Xiaomi says it’s available from launch day rather than following with a delayed sale date.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Extreme
The chipset is one of the biggest talking points. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is the first phone to launch with Qualcomm’s sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 “Super Extreme” flagship platform, built on a 2nm process. Xiaomi says the chip hits a 5GHz CPU frequency, paired with a new GPU/NPU architecture aimed at both performance and efficiency, an OFFSET PoP high-conductivity package, and a new ring-shaped cooling pump that Xiaomi claims can sustain full-frame-rate gaming under heavy load for up to an hour, a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified benchmark.
An 8,500mAh battery
The Pro Max ships with an 8,500mAh silicon-rich “Jinsha River” battery, using Xiaomi’s newer silicon-rich battery chemistry that earlier reports pegged at roughly 32% silicon content, well above what’s typical for a flagship phone. It supports both fast wired and wireless charging, though exact charging speeds from launch coverage should be treated separately from earlier pre-launch leaks, which aren’t necessarily final.
Super Pixel 2.0 display
The phone uses Xiaomi’s new-generation Super Pixel 2.0 display, built around an M11 light-emitting system and a new green-emitting material, with 4,000-nit peak brightness, BT.2020 wide color gamut, a 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate, and extremely narrow 0.99mm bezels. Xiaomi describes this as the second generation of its Super Pixel technology, focused on both image quality and power efficiency.
Hardware-level privacy display
One of the more distinctive features is a hardware-level intelligent privacy display, which Xiaomi says is built into the display panel itself rather than relying on a software overlay, and can be switched on or off as needed. It can also be customized per app: users can add specific apps to a privacy list, after which protection extends to notifications, floating windows, multitasking, and specific areas of the screen. An AI key on the phone can trigger privacy protection quickly.
Leica camera system
The rear camera setup is a Leica triple-camera system, and contrary to some pre-launch reports suggesting a triple-200MP configuration, the final setup is 200MP + 200MP + 50MP:
- Main camera: 200MP, 1/1.28-inch sensor, Leica optics, high dynamic range
- Periscope telephoto: 200MP, 1/1.56-inch sensor, larger light intake, minimum focusing distance down to 12cm according to launch coverage
- Ultra-wide: 50MP Leica
Xiaomi also introduced a new AI imaging system called “Legendary Moment,” which uses a large model, combining on-device and cloud processing, to try to reproduce the optical character of traditional cameras through three classic camera-style options. A separate AI photography assistant can recognize locations, recommend shooting spots, analyze composition, suggest filters, and guide subject poses.
A smarter rear display
The Pro Max continues Xiaomi’s Magic Back Screen concept, but turns it into a fully AI-powered, customizable rear display. Ahead of launch, Xiaomi confirmed the rear screen can generate application cards through AI, letting users describe what they want and have a card built specifically for the back display, things like an egg-cooking timer, water-intake tracker, Pomodoro-style focus mode, vocabulary trainer, or a random food picker. The launch version reportedly ships with more than 100 rear-screen app cards covering utilities, information panels, and small games, on top of whatever users generate themselves. The rear display can also produce personalized AI wallpapers, recognizing things like pets, people in photos, or cultural objects to build customized visuals.
HyperOS 4 and Super XiaoAi 2.0
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max ships with HyperOS 4, built around Xiaomi’s newer AI and ecosystem features, including the upgraded Super XiaoAi 2.0 assistant. Xiaomi says it’s based on the company’s MiMo large model and supports one-tap memory, autonomous reasoning, complex task execution, cross-device interaction across phone, tablet, and PC, and privacy protection.
Design, durability, and colors
The phone uses ultra-thin 0.99mm four-sided bezels, a large micro-curved frame, a flat rear display, and a horizontal camera and rear-screen layout. It comes in Galaxy Blue, Ice Peach Pink, Black, and White, and rounds out its spec sheet with IP66/IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance, UWB, a three-speaker stereo system, advanced haptics, USB-C, and 5G.

The two share most of their core technology, but the Pro Max pulls ahead on battery size, chipset tier, and overall flagship positioning.
What happened to the standard Xiaomi 18?
Notably, Xiaomi didn’t launch the standard Xiaomi 18 alongside the Pro models this week; today’s event centered entirely on the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max. Reports suggest the standard model could arrive later, possibly toward the end of 2026 or into early 2027, which for now puts the Pro Max at the top of the new 18 series by default.
Global availability
Xiaomi has indicated the 18 Pro series will reach global markets eventually, but specific international launch dates and pricing haven’t been confirmed yet, so it’s too early to attach a firm Pakistan, India, UK, or worldwide price to this phone.
