
A battery supplier registration has just given us the clearest look yet at what’s powering Apple’s first foldable iPhone. According to a leak shared by reliable Chinese sources, Apple’s battery supplier has filed registrations for two cells believed to be destined for the iPhone Ultra a 1,921mAh cell and a 2,962mAh cell combining for a minimum rated capacity of around 4,883mAh, with the typical figure expected to land somewhere between 4,800mAh and 5,000mAh.
The dual-cell approach isn’t a surprise. Foldable phones physically can’t fit a single large battery the way a conventional smartphone can. The hinge splits the internal space into two halves, and splitting the battery between them is the standard engineering solution. Samsung does it with the Galaxy Z Fold series, and Apple appears to be following the same architecture. It helps balance weight, manage the chassis thickness, and work around the space constraints that folding hardware creates.
What is worth flagging is the gap between this leak and earlier rumors. Previous reports had Apple testing battery capacities in the 5,400mAh to 5,800mAh range. The supplier registration points to something noticeably smaller. The likely explanation is a thinner, lighter design taking priority over raw capacity. Apple almost certainly expects its A20 chip efficiency, adaptive OLED displays, and iOS software optimization to compensate for the modest cell size.
For context, 4,883mAh is comparable to plenty of premium foldables already on the market, so this isn’t an alarming number on its own. It’s only a step down relative to what the rumor mill was expecting.
The iPhone Ultra is still on track for a September 2026 announcement alongside the iPhone 18 lineup, with availability potentially arriving a few weeks later due to limited initial production of 7 to 10 million units. Pricing remains in the $2,300 to $2,500 range according to most reports.
