Apple’s next Apple TV and HomePod mini have reportedly been sitting finished for months, and the only thing standing between them and a store shelf is software. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, both devices are “nearly ready to launch” this fall, held back specifically because Apple wants them to debut alongside its long-delayed AI-powered Siri rather than shipping the hardware first and patching in the smarts later.
The wait comes down entirely to Siri. Apple’s Siri AI overhaul is already live in developer betas across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27, with a public release expected in September which lines up with why Apple wants the new Apple TV and HomePod mini launching in that same window rather than earlier. The Apple TV 4K is expected to jump to an A17 Pro chip, notable because that’s the oldest Apple silicon capable of running Apple Intelligence locally, while the HomePod mini is expected to move to an S9 chip or newer, likely leaning on cloud processing since the Watch-derived chip wasn’t built for on-device AI at this scale.
For context on how overdue this refresh is: the current Apple TV 4K launched in October 2022, and the HomePod mini hasn’t been updated since October 2020. A four-year gap on a smart speaker is a long time in a category where competitors iterate annually, and it’s part of why reports describe this as the opening move in a broader smart home push that also includes a new full-size HomePod and Apple’s first dedicated smart home hub with a built-in display.
Nothing is official from Apple yet, including pricing, exact release dates, or final names. But when the hardware has reportedly been finished and sitting in warehouses for months, the real launch date isn’t really a hardware question anymore it’s just whichever week Apple decides Siri is finally ready to ship.
