iPhone Duo Buyers at US Apple Stores Will Reportedly Get a Personalized “Hello” Screen

Apple retail stores in the US will reportedly be able to personalize the iPhone Duo’s first startup screen with the buyer’s name, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Instead of a generic greeting, the foldable would show something like “Hello, Mark” the first time it powers on. Gurman called it a “fun little touch” for the launch and said Apple’s retail stores will have a system to customize the boot of the device.

The option is reportedly limited to the iPhone Duo, available only at Apple Stores in the United States, and supports English and Spanish. Gurman didn’t say how Apple will set it up. One possibility is Presto, the system Apple already uses to update sealed iPhones before they reach customers, but that hasn’t been confirmed. His post also doesn’t say whether orders placed online for in-store pickup qualify, though MacRumors presumes the option will cover both pickup orders and in-person purchases.

It is a small launch extra rather than a new everyday feature, since it only personalizes the unboxing moment. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo start on October 16, and it launches on October 23 at a starting price of $1,999. Apple’s first foldable has reportedly been dealing with assembly yields ahead of that date, and code in its software has hinted at five new StandBy views.
