Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra Could Get LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.1 Storage

A new leak from Korean tipster Lanzuk claims the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra could use LPDDR6 RAM paired with UFS 5.1 storage, a genuine generational jump over the LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 combination in the current S26 Ultra. Earlier S27 rumors had pointed to UFS 5.0 instead, so this is a newer, more specific claim, and Samsung reportedly hasn’t finalized the memory and storage standards yet, meaning the plan could still change before launch.

The more interesting part of the leak isn’t the memory type, it’s that capacities barely move at all. The S27 Ultra reportedly still tops out at the same 16GB/1TB combination as the current S26 Ultra, and the S27 Pro’s 1TB option pairs with only 12GB of RAM rather than getting its own 16GB tier. The standard S27 could lose its 128GB starting option entirely, meaning 256GB becomes the effective entry point across the whole family, a detail also flagged by TechRadar’s own coverage of the same leak. SamMobile reports the reasoning comes down to cost: with memory and storage prices climbing partly due to AI-driven demand, Samsung’s apparent approach is to upgrade the speed and efficiency of the memory rather than the capacity, keeping familiar storage tiers while quietly making them faster underneath.

That faster memory reportedly isn’t going to every model, either. LPDDR6 and UFS 5.1 are specifically tied to the Pro and Ultra in this leak, while the standard S27 and S27+ aren’t mentioned as getting either upgrade consistent with how those two models have generally sat a tier below on hardware anyway, something that’s been part of the pitch for the Galaxy S27 Pro as a genuinely distinct step up from the Plus rather than just a renamed variant. There is some technical backing for the RAM claim specifically: Samsung reportedly validated LPDDR6 support on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, the chip expected to power at least some S27 models, and other reporting puts LPDDR6 at up to 37% more bandwidth and around 21% better power efficiency than LPDDR5X the kind of efficiency gain that matters most for on-device AI tasks running quietly in the background.

This memory leak lines up with other S27 rumors circulating at the same time, including the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s expected camera redesign, M16 OLED panels reportedly reserved for the Pro and Ultra, and an undecided regional split between Snapdragon and Exynos chips. None of it is confirmed by Samsung, and current reports point to an early 2027 launch, with SamMobile specifically floating February plenty of time for any of these specs to shift before an official announcement.
