Apple flipped the switch on the iOS 27 public beta today, and if you’ve been eyeing the developer version from the sidelines, now’s your chance to jump in without a paid developer account. Same code, same features just packaged for regular people instead of engineers.
The compatibility list is generous this time around. Anything from the iPhone 11 up through the freshly-announced iPhone 18 can run it. Sorry to anyone still rocking an XS, XS Max, or XR Apple’s finally cutting the cord there.
Let’s talk about the thing everyone actually cares about: Siri AI. Apple’s been promising a smarter assistant for what feels like forever, and this beta is the first real taste of it. Conversations are supposed to flow more naturally now, follow-up questions actually get understood, and there’s a standalone Siri app to go with it. A word of caution though Apple’s already admitting some of this won’t be fully baked until later in the year, and it might only speak English at launch.
That’s not the only thing that changed. Liquid Glass gets another pass with smoother animations and more see-through polish. Messages finally treats RCS like a first-class citizen with inline replies. Wallet now tracks your recurring payments and gives you a clearer picture of where your money’s going. Even Safari’s gotten smarter about herding your open tabs.
Under the hood, this build already feels miles ahead of the first developer seed, better battery life, way less overheating, fewer random crashes. It’s not perfect, though. CarPlay still acts up occasionally, and you might run into an app that hasn’t caught up yet.
Getting it is easy enough: Settings, General, Software Update, Beta Updates, and you’re in. Just don’t skip the backup step.
