Xiaomi just made the battery war in the mid-range segment even more competitive. The Redmi Note 17 series is now official in China, introducing two models the Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro and the numbers attached to both of them are genuinely hard to ignore. The launch also came with a milestone announcement: the Redmi Note family has now surpassed 500 million cumulative global sales since the lineup first launched, making it one of the most successful smartphone series in history.
Start with the standard Redmi Note 17, which is carrying an 8,000mAh battery in a phone that still manages a 7.0-inch OLED display at 120Hz. That’s an enormous cell for a mid-range device, paired with 45W wired fast charging to make sure the top-up time doesn’t become its own problem. Under the hood sits a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor running HyperOS on Android 16, with a 50MP main camera handling photography duties. The 7-inch display with slim bezels is a notable size step up from typical mid-range dimensions, giving the Note 17 a genuinely large-screen experience that few phones in this segment can match.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro pushes everything further. The battery grows to 9,000mAh, the same headline number that was confirmed before launch paired with a 1.5K OLED display at 120Hz and a MediaTek Dimensity 7500 chipset. The camera takes a significant jump to a 200MP main sensor with AI photography enhancements. But the detail that stands out most is the battery health guarantee. Xiaomi says the 9,000mAh cell is designed to retain at least 80% of its original capacity after four years of normal use and if it drops below that threshold within the covered period, Xiaomi will provide a free battery replacement in eligible markets. That’s a rare commitment for any smartphone, let alone a mid-range one, and it changes the long-term value calculation considerably.
Durability also gets serious attention across both models, with improved drop resistance, enhanced water resistance, and a reinforced internal structure. Xiaomi promoted these improvements prominently during the launch, suggesting its positioning durability as a key differentiator for the series.
Both phones ship with HyperOS based on Android 16, with AI optimizations built into the camera, battery management, and system performance.
China gets the Redmi Note 17 series first, and global pricing and availability haven’t been confirmed yet. Redmi Note devices typically follow their Chinese debut with an international rollout, so global buyers shouldn’t have to wait too long.
