Samsung Galaxy S24 owners have been watching the One UI 8.5 rollout hit the S26 series for weeks now. The wait is over. Samsung has officially started pushing the stable One UI 8.5 update to the Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, and S24 FE starting in South Korea and the US, with global expansion following in phases.
The update is substantial at around 4GB and brings a genuinely meaningful set of improvements rather than just a version number change. The biggest addition for most users is AirDrop-style file sharing via Quick Share Galaxy S24 devices can now send and receive files directly with iPhones, iPads, and Macs without third-party apps or cloud workarounds. That feature alone makes the update worth installing immediately.
Galaxy AI gets a significant expansion too. Writing tools, AI summaries, Photo Assist upgrades, Audio Eraser, and the new “Now Nudge” keyboard suggestions all arrive from the S26 series. Animations are smoother, app opening feels faster, multitasking is more responsive, and the Quick Panel behavior is more refined throughout. Security gets sharper: the system now detects high-risk apps automatically, warns you, and recommends deletion.
A few things worth knowing before you hit update. Some users have reported heavier battery drain after installing, Voice Recorder crashes, and Galaxy Enhance-X issues. These appear to be isolated rather than widespread, but worth monitoring in the first few days. Some AI features from the S26 remain hardware-exclusive due to NPU requirements; not everything transfers down the lineup.
One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16 QPR2 the same foundation already running on the S26 series since launch.
Go to Settings → Software Update right now. If your region has it, the download is waiting. If not, it’s coming within days.
