OnePlus may be about to make a dramatic exit from two of its most visible markets. Reports from German publication WinFuture, picked up by The Verge and Android Authority, claim that OnePlus and parent company OPPO are preparing “fundamental changes” to their Western market strategy with an announcement potentially coming this week. The reports suggest OnePlus could stop selling new smartphones in the United States and scale back or end operations across parts of Europe, with OPPO potentially stepping in as the primary brand for those markets instead.
This isn’t the first time these rumors have surfaced. Earlier in 2026, similar reports emerged suggesting OnePlus might pull back from Western markets, and the company pushed back at the time. That history means the current reports deserve some caution, nothing is confirmed until OnePlus says so officially.
The context behind the speculation makes sense though. OnePlus has gradually become more integrated with OPPO over the years, with hardware designs converging and software development increasingly shared between the two brands. The original identity that made OnePlus famous enthusiast-focused flagship killers at competitive prices has become harder to maintain as Samsung, Google, and Apple have raised their own games and component costs have climbed across the industry.
If the exit does happen, existing OnePlus users in the US and Europe should still receive software updates and warranty support under existing policies. The brand would continue operating in China and India, where it remains stronger. This would be a regional withdrawal, not a company shutdown.
