With the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone Duo already out since September 2026, Apple’s standard iPhone 18 is the piece still missing and according to Macworld’s ongoing rumor tracking, it’s expected to arrive in spring 2027, likely March or April, alongside the cheaper iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air. Apple hasn’t confirmed a date for any of them.
Display
Expect something close to the iPhone 17’s 6.3-inch OLED panel with 120Hz ProMotion, an Always-On Display, and a Dynamic Island that could shrink down from its current size. There’s some uncertainty here, though a handful of reports suggest Apple might downgrade the display somewhat to cut costs, though it’s unclear whether that would mean lower brightness or a different panel technology. ProMotion carrying over is the more likely outcome, just not a locked-in one yet.
Chip: A20
The standard A20 brings the iPhone 18 onto TSMC’s 2nm process, the same node powering the A20 Pro already shipping in the 18 Pro line. Expect roughly 10-15% better performance and around 30% improved power efficiency, with particular benefit to on-device Apple Intelligence processing though the standard A20 will almost certainly sit below the A20 Pro in raw CPU/GPU configuration, details Apple hasn’t confirmed either way.
RAM: 9GB or 12GB
This is genuinely unsettled. Ming-Chi Kuo’s reporting points to 9GB RAM for both the iPhone 18 and 18e, based on an expected memory configuration using six 1.5GB dies. Jeff Pu’s reporting instead suggests 12GB for the standard iPhone 18, with 9GB reserved for the cheaper 18e. Kuo’s figure ties more directly to a specific supply-chain memory configuration and is the more recent claim, which makes 9GB the somewhat safer number to report for now but neither is confirmed.
Cameras
The regular iPhone 18 keeps a dual-camera setup rather than the Pro’s three lenses: a 48MP main and 48MP ultra-wide, with improved sensors and computational photography, but without the Pro’s new variable-aperture main camera that’s staying a Pro-exclusive feature for now. A front-camera upgrade to 24MP has also been floated, though it’s a much softer rumor than the chip or timing claims, especially next to the 18MP Center Stage camera already on the 18 Pro.
Camera Control
Up in the air. One version of the rumor has Apple simplifying Camera Control by stripping out some of its touch/haptic functionality to cut cost; another version has Apple removing it from the standard model entirely. Neither is confirmed, and the two theories genuinely contradict each other.
Modem and Connectivity
Apple’s C2 modem already running in the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to make its way to the standard iPhone 18 too, which would be a meaningful step up in Apple’s push toward in-house cellular hardware. Alongside it: 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, USB-C, and MagSafe, none of which would be surprising changes from the current generation.
Battery and Storage
No reliable battery capacity has leaked yet. The combination of a 2nm chip, potentially more efficient memory, and the newer modem could improve battery life even without a dramatically bigger cell, but that’s inference rather than a leak. Storage is expected to stick with 256GB and 512GB tiers, matching the current iPhone 17, though elevated memory and NAND pricing industry-wide could still push Apple to adjust the base configuration before launch.
Design
Don’t expect a major visual overhaul: aluminum frame, Ceramic Shield front, glass back, Dynamic Island, dual rear cameras, USB-C, and an Action Button are all expected to carry over largely unchanged from the iPhone 17. The most visible potential change is a smaller Dynamic Island, a detail multiple reports have converged on.
Price
Current estimates cluster around $799 to $899, with $899 showing up as one of the more frequently cited figures given rising component costs but none of it is official, and the iPhone 17 itself started at $799, so even the lower end of that range would represent a real increase.

With the Pro models and iPhone Duo already shipping, the standard iPhone 18 is the one still worth comparing against whatever you’re currently carrying including older Pro-tier phones people are weighing against newer releases before deciding whether to wait for spring.
