iPhone 11 Series May No Longer Get iOS 27 Update

iPhone 11

If you’re still using an iPhone 11, the clock may be ticking. Leaks ahead of WWDC 2026 on June 8 suggest Apple is preparing to drop software support for the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and the second-generation iPhone SE when iOS 27 officially arrives. Nothing is confirmed yet Apple will make it official when the first developer beta drops but the sources are consistent enough to take seriously.

The reasoning is straightforward and follows Apple’s established pattern. The iPhone 11 launched in September 2019 with the A13 Bionic chip. Apple typically supports devices for six to seven years of major iOS updates and the iPhone 11 is right at that boundary in 2026. Seven years of support is genuinely impressive compared to most Android manufacturers, but every device reaches that wall eventually. The A13 chip limitation also matters Apple’s newer AI features and next-generation Siri upgrades require significantly more powerful silicon, starting from the A17 Pro in the iPhone 15 Pro lineup.

iOS 27

If the leaks hold, iPhone 12 and newer would be the minimum requirement for iOS 27. That keeps a broad range of devices covered iPhone 12 through 17, iPhone SE third generation and newer, and all recent Pro models. The iPhone SE 2020 shares the A13 chip with the iPhone 11, which is why it appears on the same rumored cut list, though Apple has occasionally extended SE support longer than expected.

The good news for iPhone 11 owners is that security patches and critical bug fixes are expected to continue even after major iOS support ends the same treatment Apple gave previous generations. Your phone won’t suddenly stop working or become insecure overnight.

iOS 27 itself is shaping up as a refinement-focused update with better performance, improved battery efficiency, system stability, and a significantly upgraded conversational Siri experience. Multiple sources compare Apple’s approach to macOS Snow Leopard less flashy, more reliable.

WWDC is on June 8. If you’re on an iPhone 11, that’s the day you’ll know for certain. Start thinking about your upgrade path. The A13 era is almost over.
