Huawei has officially launched its much-anticipated Mate 80 series on November 25, 2025, introducing four flagship models: Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max, and Mate 80 RS (Ultimate Design). The new lineup marks one of Huawei’s strongest hardware upgrades in years, powered by next-generation Kirin chipsets, ultra-bright displays, and advanced imaging technologies.
The standard Mate 80 ships with the Kirin 9020, while the Mate 80 Pro, Pro Max, and RS move to the newly developed Kirin 9030 and 9030 Pro, delivering up to 35–42% performance gains over previous generations. All models run HarmonyOS 6, featuring improved AI functions, smoother system animations, and a redesigned interface.
One of the biggest highlights comes from the display department. Huawei equips the Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro with a 6.75-inch OLED panel supporting a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a crisp 1280 × 2832 resolution. Meanwhile, the top-tier Mate 80 Pro Max pushes boundaries with an extremely bright dual-layer OLED display, reaching up to 8,000 nits peak brightness, making it one of the brightest smartphone screens ever released.
The series continues Huawei’s iconic circular “ring camera” design. Camera performance remains a key selling point across all models. The Mate 80 features a 50MP variable-aperture main sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS, ensuring versatile low-light and zoom performance. The Mate 80 Pro series enhances this setup further with a larger 50MP primary sensor and an upgraded 48MP macro-telephoto module, supported by Huawei’s latest Maple Leaf Imaging Engine for richer colors and clearer night shots.
Battery life also sees significant upgrades. The Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro come with ~5750 mAh batteries, while the Pro Max and RS variants push up to 6000 mAh. Charging speeds vary by model, with the standard Mate 80 offering 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, and the Pro/Pro Max reaching up to 100W wired and 80W wireless. Reverse wireless charging is also supported on the higher-end versions.
Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, Bluetooth, and enhanced satellite communication features in select regions. The design remains premium, slim, and lightweight, with new color options and improved durability.
For now, the Huawei Mate 80 series is exclusive to the Chinese market, with no confirmed global release timeline. However, given Huawei’s renewed momentum with its in-house chips and HarmonyOS ecosystem, international tech watchers are keeping a close eye on potential worldwide availability.
