AT&T has revealed that Halloween 2025 (October 31) became the busiest voice-calling day of the year on its mobile network, surpassing even long-standing high-traffic occasions such as Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
According to data shared by the carrier, AT&T customers placed approximately 651 million voice calls on Halloween alone. The spike highlights how major social events can still drive a surge in traditional phone calls, despite the growing dominance of messaging apps and social platforms.
While voice calls peaked on Halloween, AT&T’s broader usage data shows that texting continues to dominate overall communication habits. Throughout 2025, subscribers sent more than three times as many text messages as phone calls, with total texts reaching into the hundreds of billions. The company noted that Cyber Monday (December 1) marked the year’s busiest texting day, driven largely by shopping updates, delivery alerts, and promotional messages.
AT&T says the Halloween call surge was likely fueled by people coordinating plans, checking in with family and friends, and managing last-minute logistics during celebrations. The carrier added that moments tied to real-time social interaction still favor voice calls over messaging, even in an era increasingly shaped by data-based communication.
The findings underline how specific cultural events can temporarily reshape network usage patterns, reinforcing the continued relevance of voice services alongside texting and mobile data.
