Apple Rumored to Jump Straight From iPhone 18 to iPhone 20

Apple may skip the iPhone 19 entirely and go straight to the iPhone 20 to mark the iPhone’s 20th anniversary in 2027, according to a new report from research firm Omdia. Senior analyst Heo Moo-yeol shared the prediction during a recent conference, suggesting a significant shake-up in Apple’s release schedule and naming strategy.

Omdia claims that Apple will launch the first “iPhone 20” model in early 2027 alongside a new budget-friendly “iPhone 18e.” Later that year, in the second half of 2027, Apple is expected to unveil the full flagship lineup: iPhone 20 Air, iPhone 20 Pro, iPhone 20 Pro Max, and the second-generation foldable iPhone, rumored to be called iPhone Fold 2.

The move would mirror what Apple did in 2017 when it skipped the iPhone 9 and introduced the iPhone X to celebrate the product’s 10th anniversary. Omdia believes Apple plans a similar strategy for its 20th year, signaling a major redesign and a refreshed branding direction for its most important product.

Reports also indicate that Apple’s first foldable iPhone will debut as part of the iPhone 18 series in 2026, potentially pushing the standard iPhone 18 model to early 2027. If accurate, Apple could be shifting to a two-phase launch cycle one in spring and another in fall for the first time in its history.

While Apple hasn’t confirmed any of these details, the rumor aligns with the company’s past anniversary patterns and growing interest in foldable and AI-driven smartphone designs.
