The most likely candidate for a fix is Face ID. Some iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max owners have reported the phone freezing or rebooting when Face ID fails inside protected apps, and a few users say the “Require Attention for Face ID” setting doesn’t always get respected. Apple redesigned Face ID’s infrared camera placement on the 18 Pro models to allow for a smaller Dynamic Island, though whether that change is actually connected to the reported issues hasn’t been confirmed; it’s currently looking more like a software interaction than a hardware defect.
