Samsung has started rolling out the first One UI 9.0 beta to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra, with the rollout beginning in India before it expands elsewhere. The build is based on Android 17 and comes in at more than 3.4GB, carrying firmware S91xBXXUAZZHL depending on the model.
Notably, the Galaxy S23 FE isn’t part of this specific rollout, even though it’s eligible for Android 17/One UI 9 as a separate model. It’s also worth pointing out that Samsung’s September 1 Newsroom announcement about the One UI 9 beta expansion covered the S25 series, S25 FE, Z Fold7, and Z Flip7, but didn’t mention the S23 lineup at all so this looks like a later, quieter expansion rather than something Samsung formally announced through a press release.
The beta brings the usual mix of refinements rather than a ground-up redesign, since One UI 8.5 already handled most of the visual overhaul. On the S23 specifically, Samsung has made the Quick Panel more customizable, added improvements to Samsung DeX and Samsung Notes, and introduced new accessibility options. The update package also bundles in the August 2026 security patch, so S23 owners installing the beta get both the newer software base and an updated security baseline in one go.
Installing it follows Samsung’s usual beta process: open the Samsung Members app, find the One UI 9.0 Beta Program banner, and enroll. From there, head to Settings, then Software update, then Download and install to pull the build down. As with any first beta, expect some rough edges, occasional crashes, app compatibility issues, and battery fluctuations are common until Samsung ships a few more builds ahead of the stable release.
There’s a bigger picture worth noting here too. The Galaxy S23 launched in 2023 under Samsung’s four-generation OS upgrade policy, and One UI 9/Android 17 is expected to be the final major Android version the S23 family receives following Android 14, 15, and 16 before it. It’s the same kind of software cliff that shows up clearly once you put an older Galaxy model next to a newer one. After this update, the S23 series can still expect security patches, but not another major Android release under the current policy.
SamMobile reports the beta is confirmed for India only at this stage, with South Korea, the UK, and the US expected to follow in the coming weeks.
