A new claim out of China suggests Apple has dropped Silver from the iPhone 18 Pro color lineup entirely, and given how much the rumors have shifted over the past few months, that’s worth treating as the latest guess rather than the final word. The report comes from Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital, who says the phone has now entered full mass production with a three-color lineup: Dark Cherry, Sky Blue, and Black.
This isn’t the first version of this story, and that’s exactly the point. Previous reports showed a four-color lineup of Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver, complete with alleged Pantone codes. Then leaked dummy units showed Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Black, and Silver, offering physical-looking evidence for Black while still keeping Silver in the mix. SIM tray photos added another variation, showing Dark Cherry, Light Blue, and Dark Gray with no Silver or Black at all. Now the newest claim drops Silver but keeps Black, meaning we’ve now seen at least four different combinations circulate before Apple’s ever said a word.
Dark Cherry is the one constant running through all of this. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman first described it as a deep red, and later reporting settled on Dark Cherry as the name, describing a shade that blends red, burgundy, and plum tones. If it holds, it would take over the role Cosmic Orange played on the iPhone 17 Pro, giving the Pro lineup its signature standout color for the generation. The blue option remains a naming question mark too, with reports splitting between Light Blue and Sky Blue for what’s likely the same shade.
Black is really the interesting swing here. Earlier leaker Instant Digital had suggested Apple might skip Black entirely, and Apple reportedly considered both Black and Steel Gray for last year’s iPhone 17 Pro before going a different direction. Seeing Black resurface now, at the expense of Silver, suggests Apple may still be finalizing choices this close to launch, or that different leakers are simply picking up signals from different stages of the manufacturing process.
None of this is confirmed, and mass production claims from a single leaker aren’t independently verifiable either. What is confirmed is the date: Apple’s September 9 event, where the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone are all expected to make their official debut. That’s still the only source that will actually settle this.
