Apple’s budget-friendly MacBook Neo is reportedly getting a meaningful upgrade for its next generation, with a faster A19 Pro chip and a jump to 12GB of RAM addressing the two biggest complaints about the current model.
Analyst Tim Culpan says Apple is moving the Neo off its launch chip, the A18 Pro, to a version of the A19 Pro likely a “binned” variant with a similar GPU core count to keep costs down while still boosting CPU speed, graphics, efficiency, and AI performance.
The current MacBook Neo ships with just 8GB of unified memory alongside 256GB or 512GB storage options. The next version is expected to bump that to 12GB, a meaningful jump for multitasking and for handling Apple Intelligence workloads that lean heavily on available RAM.
Beyond silver, blush, citrus, and indigo, Apple may introduce fresh color options, though nothing is confirmed yet.
Since launching in March 2026 at $799, the MacBook Neo has served as Apple’s entry point into the Mac ecosystem. These upgrades would narrow the gap with pricier MacBooks and keep the entry-level machine relevant as Apple leans further into on-device AI. A 2027 launch is rumored, suggesting a yearly refresh cadence, though Apple hasn’t confirmed timing, pricing, or specs.
