Xiaomi 17 Ultra Live Stream Reveals Massive Camera Upgrades

Xiaomi 17 Ultra live stream reveals massive camera upgrades

Xiaomi has officially teased the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera system during a recent livestream, confirming that imaging will once again be the phone’s biggest selling point. Compared to its predecessor, the 17 Ultra is shaping up to be a substantial upgrade, especially in zoom performance, sensor quality, and Leica-driven tuning.

At the center of the setup is a 1-inch main camera sensor, which Xiaomi claims delivers improved dynamic range, better low-light performance, and faster image processing. The company says this generation benefits from refined optics and a new imaging pipeline developed alongside Leica from the early design stages, rather than added later in development.

The most eye-catching upgrade is the new 200MP Leica APO periscope telephoto camera. Xiaomi confirmed that the lens is physically larger than before and designed to reduce chromatic aberration, improving sharpness and color accuracy at long zoom levels. The livestream also hinted at continuous optical zoom, allowing smooth transitions between multiple focal lengths without the usual quality drops seen with digital zoom.

Completing the rear camera setup is a 50MP ultra-wide sensor, aimed at maintaining consistency in color and detail across all lenses. Xiaomi also highlighted improvements in video stabilization and HDR processing, with better handling of motion and challenging lighting conditions.

Xiaomi shared early camera samples during the livestream, showing strong detail retention, natural color science, and improved night performance. The company emphasized that its goal with the 17 Ultra is not just high megapixel counts, but more reliable results across everyday and professional shooting scenarios.

While the livestream focused mainly on cameras, Xiaomi confirmed that the 17 Ultra will remain positioned as a top-tier flagship, expected to pair its upgraded imaging hardware with high-end performance, a premium display, and fast charging. The official launch is expected later this month in China, with global availability likely to follow.
