
The U.S. wireless industry is seeing a sharp split in fortunes, with T-Mobile posting record gains while Verizon struggles to retain its base. In the first quarter of 2025, T-Mobile reported its best start to a year yet, adding more than 1.3 million new users. That included 495,000 prepaid phone additions, 205,000 new postpaid accounts, and 424,000 fixed wireless internet customers. Revenue climbed to $16.9 billion, marking a 5% increase from the same period last year. The company credits its expanding 5G network, aggressive promotions, and the launch of its experimental T-Satellite service as major growth drivers.
Verizon, meanwhile, disclosed nearly 300,000 postpaid phone customer losses in the same quarter. The company has introduced a three-year price lock and revamped its Unlimited Ultimate plan in response, but analysts say it faces an uphill battle to slow the churn.
The shift shows how quickly consumer loyalty can change in a competitive market. While AT&T also reported steady gains with 324,000 postpaid phone additions, T-Mobile’s surge stands out as the clearest sign of where momentum is heading.
