Samsung “Wide Fold” Rumored To Rival Future Foldable iPhone

Wide Fold

Samsung is reportedly preparing a brand-new foldable device codenamed the “Wide Fold” that could arrive as early as late 2026, aiming to take the fight directly to Apple’s much-anticipated first foldable iPhone. According to multiple industry leaks and regional reports, the Wide Fold will adopt a wider, passport-style form factor that sets it apart from Samsung’s existing Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip lineups.

Leaks indicate the Wide Fold will feature a large internal display with an aspect ratio closer to 4:3, making the unfolded screen feel more like a compact tablet than a stretched smartphone. Early rumours suggest an internal display around ~7.6 inches, with a similarly wide cover screen for everyday use when closed, a configuration designed for larger content consumption, multitasking and productivity. This shift toward a wider footprint mirrors recent whispers about Apple’s foldable iPhone, which itself is tipped to use a roughly 7.5-inch 4:3-ish panel, positioning both companies to compete in a new foldable niche.

The Wide Fold is expected to launch alongside Samsung’s next major foldable refresh in second-half 2026, possibly at or around a Galaxy Unpacked event. While specific hardware details remain scarce, rumours hint at premium specs across the board, including flagship-level displays and cameras, and support for advanced Samsung features such as improved multitasking and S-Pen input. Some reports also suggest the device could support 25W wireless charging, aligning it with recent premium Samsung models.

Rather than replace Samsung’s standard Z Fold design, the Wide Fold is said to sit alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, giving consumers more choice in foldable form factors particularly those who prefer a wider screen for media, productivity and web browsing. Samsung’s strategy appears to be expanding its foldable portfolio in anticipation of intensified competition, especially as Apple nears its own entry into the category.

While Samsung has not confirmed official specifications or a launch date, the convergence of leaks from multiple sources suggests the Wide Fold could be one of the most important foldable debuts of 2026, aimed squarely at rivaling Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone and broadening Samsung’s lead in the increasingly competitive foldable smartphone market.
