Samsung has started rolling out the first software update for the Galaxy S26 lineup, though it isn’t the latest March security patch the company recently released. Instead, the update arriving on the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra brings the February 2026 Android security update as Samsung works to align the new devices with its regular update schedule.
The update carries the firmware designation AZC7 and appears to focus mainly on security improvements. The February patch addresses several known vulnerabilities in the Android system and Samsung’s own software layer. By itself, the update isn’t particularly unusual, especially for newly released devices that often need a quick patch soon after launch.
What’s interesting is the timing. Samsung already released the March 2026 security patch for some of its other devices, but the Galaxy S26 series is getting the February update first. The likely explanation is that Samsung is simply bringing the new phones up to date with its current security rollout cycle. Once the devices receive the March update, they should fall in line with Samsung’s standard monthly patch schedule.
It’s also possible that the update includes additional bug fixes, although Samsung hasn’t provided detailed information about changes beyond the security improvements. Early reports from users suggest that at least a few software glitches have been appearing on the Galaxy S26 series since launch. One issue in particular has been causing problems with Google Play Protect, where the system incorrectly blocks certain apps from running. The feature is designed to protect users from harmful apps, but in some cases it appears to be flagging legitimate apps by mistake.
Whether this first update fixes that problem is still unclear, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Samsung included some stability improvements alongside the security patch. It’s fairly common for brand-new smartphones to receive small updates shortly after release as manufacturers address early bugs discovered by users.
The timing of the update also comes as the Galaxy S26 lineup approaches the end of its pre-order window. Samsung’s pre-order period runs until March 11, and it currently includes the company’s usual promotional deals such as boosted trade-in values. Once the pre-order period ends, those incentives typically disappear, making upgrades a bit more expensive for buyers who missed the early offers.
With the Galaxy S26 series now beginning to receive its first update, Samsung appears to be moving quickly to ensure the phones stay on track with its long-term software support plans. The company has already promised several years of security updates for its flagship devices, and keeping them aligned with the monthly patch cycle is an important first step.
