Fresh leaks suggest OnePlus is experimenting with an ultra-high refresh rate smartphone display that could far exceed today’s flagship panels. According to a new report, the company is testing a 240 Hz OLED panel supplied by BOE, marking a potential leap beyond the current 165 Hz screens used on models like the OnePlus 15.
The rumored 240 Hz panel would deliver extra-smooth motion and responsiveness especially noticeable in fast scrolling, animations, and gaming and represents one of the highest refresh rates ever discussed for a smartphone. The leak does not yet confirm which specific model will receive the 240 Hz display, but speculation points toward OnePlus’s next flagship (likely the OnePlus 16 or a “Performance Edition” variant).
Industry sources note that moving to such a high refresh rate can impose challenges, including increased power consumption, heat generation, and battery drain, which are key factors OnePlus will have to address before a commercial release. That may explain why the 240 Hz screen is currently only in testing. Companies often trial ambitious hardware long before deciding whether it’s practical for a final product.
If realized, a 240 Hz panel would be a significant step up from the OnePlus 15’s 165 Hz display (also co-developed with BOE) and would place OnePlus among a small group of brands exploring ultra-high refresh rates that challenge even some gaming monitors.
