OnePlus has confirmed it will not be launching the OnePlus Open 2 (its expected successor to the original Open foldable) in 2025. In an official OnePlus Community forum post, product manager Vale G. stated that the company has “made the decision not to release a foldable this year,” effectively shelving plans for the next foldable phone under the OnePlus brand. OnePlus clarified this is a pause/recalibration rather than abandoning foldables entirely.
The canceled launch was widely expected because the Oppo Find N5, which many assumed would be rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 for global markets, is taking the foldable spotlight this year. OnePlus said Oppo will “take the lead in the foldable segment,” and that the company will continue innovating across other categories.
Before the official pause, the OnePlus Open 2 was widely expected to launch in 2025, possibly as a rebranded Oppo Find N5. Earlier leaks had pointed to potential improved specs like a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, larger battery, wireless charging, and updated design compared to the original Open.
Industry sources and reports from earlier in the cycle stated the OnePlus Open 2 would not be released in 2025, and instead might not arrive before at least early 2026 if at all. However, there was no confirmed launch window before OnePlus’s official statement.
