Guys, one thing is already clear to everyone: phone prices are going to be higher.
And there is only one reason: the demand for RAM has increased a lot due to AI.
And I can say the same thing about the OnePlus 15R.
If we look at the previous OnePlus R series, meaning from the OnePlus 11R to the 13R, we saw the same pattern: OnePlus used last year’s flagship processor. But this time, in the OnePlus 15R, they have used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which is basically a new flagship processor. There’s a high chance that in the future, all phones in the 700$–800$ range will come with this processor.
But the biggest question is that prices have increased. Should you buy the OnePlus 15R?
Design

The OnePlus 15R has received some upgrades in design language and build quality. It comes with an aluminum frame, which obviously makes it more premium. If you remember the OnePlus 13R, it had a circular camera module. But this time, the OnePlus 15R comes with a pill-shaped camera module. This new camera module is used to make it look a bit similar to the OnePlus 15 in design.
Another thing is clear: if any other 15 series phone comes, it will have the same design language. And the good thing about the OnePlus 15R is that, like the OnePlus 15, it has an IP69K rating, which is a fantastic IP rating. Another expected change is that the alert slider has been removed and replaced with a customizable button for different actions. The Type-C port is still USB 2.0.
Display

A big upgrade for this phone is the display. It uses the exact same display as the OnePlus 15, which is a flagship phone. It’s a 6.8-inch panel with 1.5K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. Out of curiosity, I compared the OnePlus 15 and 15R side by side for colors, and both produce very natural colors. It’s a good display, and since both phones support Netflix and HDR in general, the output looks very similar. The display is visible even in direct sunlight, and because OnePlus has used an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is an upgrade at this price point (usually optical is used). So, the display is a very strong point.
Performance

OnePlus 15R has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which is a very good processor. It comes in two storage variants: 256GB and 512GB, with UFS 4.0 storage (fast storage). For RAM, unlike the 16GB in the OnePlus 13R, this phone comes with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, which is also fast. Other specs like Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 are the same as the OnePlus 15. On paper, OnePlus has done a very good job.
Real-life usage. Compared with the OnePlus 13 and 13R, looking at Geekbench scores, the OnePlus 15R gets a significant CPU upgrade compared to the 13R and performs similarly to the OnePlus 13. GPU scores in 3DMark stress tests are similar to 13R. In gaming tests (Weirding Waves for 30 minutes), both phones perform similarly, but the 15R runs slightly cooler.
In Genshin Impact, the biggest difference is that 13R can’t run 120FPS, while 15R can. After a 30-minute session, the average FPS was 119. The OnePlus 15R provides a 165Hz refresh rate option, offering extra smoothness. Like the OnePlus 15, 15R also uses the Tri-Check system.
Haptic feedback on the OnePlus 15R is similar to the 13R. The speakers, after testing, seem a bit richer in the 15R, although 13R might sound slightly louder.
Battery
OnePlus 15R has the largest battery capacity seen in any OnePlus so far: 7400mAh with 80W charging. From 0–100%, it took 1 hour 14 minutes to fully charge. OnePlus claims that even after 4 years of use, the battery health will remain at 80%.
Cameras

The OnePlus 15R has a 50 + 8MP setup. The 13R had a 50MP telephoto lens, which is missing in the 15R. Side-by-side photos show similar detail, but colors and skin tones are better in 15R. HDR has improved, and low-light performance is slightly better in 13R due to the telephoto lens. The 8MP ultra-wide lens performs as expected, and the 32MP front camera captures good selfies with 4K 30fps recording. The OnePlus 15R can record videos up to 4K 120FPS, while 13R was limited to 4K 60FPS. Overall, photo and video quality have improved in the 15R due to the recently introduced Detail Max engine.
Software

OnePlus phones have always offered a good software experience. With OxygenOS 16, the experience is even better. The OnePlus 15R comes with OxygenOS 16 out of the box, and OnePlus promises 4 + 6 years of updates. New AI features like AI Eraser, AI Detail Boost, AI Perfect Shot, and AI Recompose work well. Flex Team support allows customization. OxygenOS 16 is one of the best Android experiences.
Conclusion

Looking at all the tests, the OnePlus 15R is a very powerful phone. The power comes not just from performance but also from the 7400mAh battery. Gaming at 165Hz is a big advantage in this price segment. Cameras are improved due to Detail Max. IP69K ensures durability. Even for non-gamers, OxygenOS 16 is smooth and enjoyable. Considering all this, the OnePlus 15R becomes a very good phone.
