Can You View Blocked Messages on iPhone?

view blocked messages iphone

No iPhone does NOT store or show messages that were blocked.
Once a number is blocked, you cannot recover or view the messages they tried to send while being blocked.

But there are workarounds depending on what you want to check.

1. Check if a Number Was Blocked

If you simply want to see whether someone is blocked:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Messages
  3. Tap Blocked Contacts
  4. You will see the full list of blocked numbers.

2. If You Want to See Messages Before Blocking

Messages you received before blocking someone are still in your chat list.
You can view them normally inside Messages.

3. Unblock to Receive New Messages

If you want to start receiving messages from someone again:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Messages
  3. Tap Blocked Contacts
  4. Swipe left on the number → Unblock

After unblocking, the person can send you new messages but you still cannot see the messages they sent while blocked.

4. If You’re Using a Carrier With Spam Filtering

Some carriers (T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T) have “Spam folders” inside their apps.
Check your carrier’s app:

  • T-Mobile → Scam Shield
  • Verizon → Call Filter
  • AT&T → ActiveArmor

These sometimes store blocked SMS from spam numbers, not personal contacts.

5. Third-Party Apps?

iOS does NOT allow apps to access blocked messages.
Any app claiming to “recover blocked messages” is fake.

Important Note

Apple designed blocking to be strict for privacy and safety.
When blocked:

  • Messages don’t arrive
  • Calls don’t ring
  • You get no notification
  • Nothing is stored anywhere

So there is no hidden folder to check.
